What’s Not Covered

We believe in transparency and want you to feel fully informed. While both our workmanship warranty and the manufacturer warranties from TimberTech and Trex offer excellent protection, there are specific limitations and exclusions to be aware of. It's important to read the fine print to fully understand the exclusions and limitations of your warranty.

Here’s what is generally not covered under these warranties:

  • Normal wear and tear due to age or use
  • Weather-related damage including storms, flooding, earthquakes, or natural disasters
  • Improper maintenance, such as:
    - Using harsh chemicals not approved by the manufacturer
    - Pressure washing too closely or with excessive PSI
    - Failing to clean mold, mildew, or debris buildup
  • Improper installation by third parties (for labor warranties)
  • Unauthorized modifications or repair work made by other contractors or homeowners
  • Surface damage from dragging heavy furniture, tools, grills, or sharp objects
  • Discoloration caused by rubber-backed mats, leaching from metal furniture, or environmental pollutants
  • Commercial use of residential products (unless approved by the manufacturer)
  • Improper storage or handling of materials prior to installation
  • Structural movement of the house or ground settling that causes shifting or warping
  • Use of non-approved fasteners or accessories

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a workmanship and manufacturer warranty?

plus icon green color
Our workmanship warranty covers how the deck was built. The manufacturer warranty covers the materials themselves — like the decking boards or railings.

Is the warranty transferable if I sell my home?

plus icon green color
Yes — in most cases, the warranty can be transferred once if you sell your home within five years of the deck being installed.

Here’s a quick breakdown:
  • TimberTech by AZEK and TimberTech PRO warranties can be transferred to the next homeowner, as long as the transfer happens within five years of the original install. The coverage stays the same and doesn’t reset.
  • Trex warranties can also be transferred once within the first five years for residential decks. If the deck is on a commercial property, the warranty can be transferred more than once.
  • If your deck includes a Trex labor warranty (installed by a TrexPro Platinum or Gold builder), that coverage can also be transferred one time within five years.
If you’re planning to sell, just let us know — we’ll help guide you through the process.

How long does it take to resolve a warranty claim?

plus icon green color
The time it takes to resolve a warranty claim can vary depending on the issue and the materials involved, but here’s what you can generally expect:
  • TimberTech (by AZEK) aims to respond to warranty claims within 30 days of receiving all the required information. If the claim is approved, they’ll typically provide replacement material or cover labor (if eligible) shortly after.
  • Trex also processes claims within 30 days of receiving everything they need, and they may request photos, samples, or even an inspection as part of the process. If the claim is approved, the manufacturer will typically replace the defective materials at no charge.
In either case, faster resolution often depends on how quickly you submit all the required info — like your proof of purchase, photos, and a description of the issue.

At Legacy Decking, we help streamline the process for you. If it’s a workmanship issue, we usually inspect and take action within 1–2 weeks. For product claims, we’ll guide you through the steps and work with the manufacturer to make sure things are handled smoothly.

What do I need to keep for a warranty claim?

plus icon green color
You’ll want to hang on to your original purchase documents, such as your invoice or contract, and any product labels if available. Photos of your deck when it was first completed can also be helpful. We’ll guide you through what’s needed when you contact us.

What happens if I don’t register my product warranty?

plus icon green color
While registering your warranty isn’t always required, some manufacturers like TimberTech and Trex recommend it to make future claims easier. It’s a quick step that can save time later — we’ll even help you register after your project is completed.

Does the warranty cover mold or mildew?

plus icon green color
TimberTech and Trex products are designed to resist mold and mildew, but the warranty won’t cover mold that develops due to neglect or lack of maintenance (like leaves or moisture being left on the deck too long). Regular cleaning goes a long way!

What if my deck was damaged by a storm — is that covered?

plus icon green color
Unfortunately, warranties don’t cover damage from natural events like storms, floods, or earthquakes. That kind of damage may be covered under your homeowner’s insurance, so it’s worth checking your policy if this happens.

Who handles the claim — Legacy Decking or the manufacturer?

plus icon green color
It depends on the issue.
  • For deck installation or workmanship issues, we handle it directly.
  • For product-related issues, like board defects or fading, we’ll assist you in filing the claim with TimberTech or Trex and work with them to get it resolved.

How to Submit a Warranty Claim

At Legacy Decking, we’re committed to making your warranty experience as smooth and straightforward as possible. If you believe there’s a problem covered by our workmanship warranty or the manufacturer’s product warranty, here’s how to get started:

Step-by-Step Warranty Claim Process:

  1. Complete the Claim Form: Fill out the form below with your contact information and a brief description of the issue.
  2. Take Photos: Include clear photos of the problem areas so we can evaluate the situation before coming out.
  3. Submit Your Claim: Upload your images and submit the form directly through this page.

Before submitting your claim, please review your warranty information to ensure you understand the coverage and exclusions.

Once we’ve received your claim, we’ll review the information and follow up promptly. If needed, we’ll schedule a site visit to inspect the issue and determine the appropriate next steps.

Before You Submit a Claim:

Please review your original contract for warranty terms and exclusions. Here are a few important reminders:

  • Natural weathering of wood — such as splitting, warping, shrinking, swelling, or fading — is not covered under the workmanship warranty.
  • Damage from misuse, neglect, or acts of nature (like storms or earthquakes) is not covered.
  • Workmanship warranty is void if products installed by Legacy Decking are later modified or repaired by others.
  • Improper maintenance or failure to follow care instructions may also void warranty coverage.

⚠️Service Visit Disclaimer:

If a technician is dispatched and the issue is determined to be outside warranty coverage, a $75 service fee may apply.
